Bio: Tyrone Forman (Ph.D., Sociology, University of Michigan, 2001) is an Associate Professor with a joint appointment in the Departments of African American Studies and Sociology at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and the Institute of Government & Public Affairs at the University of Illinois. His scholarly and teaching interests focus on intergroup prejudice and discrimination, American youth and public opinion, adolescent health and well-being, survey research methods, and African American fathers. He is currently conducting research in four areas: (1) studies of intergroup relations among people of color; (2) studies of the patterns, trends, and social determinants of young whites' racial attitudes; (3) studies of the social psychological consequences of racial stratification for African American well-being; and (4) studies of adolescent health and well-being. His work on these topics has appeared in leading social science journals including: Social Problems, Journal of Health and Social Behavior, Du Bois Review, Discourse and Society, Race and Society, Perspectives on Social Problems, Youth and Society, Sociological Studies of Children and Youth, Journal of Negro Education, Anthropology and Education Quarterly, Health Education and Behavior, Research in Political Sociology, and Journal of Studies on Alcohol. His research has been supported by the Russell Sage Foundation, National Science Foundation, and the National Institutes of Health. In 2003-2004, he was a Fellow at the Research Institute of Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity at Stanford University. He is Chair-Elect of the American Sociological Association’s Section on Racial and Ethnic Minorities. He also serves on the editorial board of Social Psychology Quarterly.
