Bio: Lorena García is an Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Illinois at Chicago.  She received her Ph.D. from the Department of Sociology with a Women’s Studies Doctoral Emphasis at the University of California at Santa Barbara in 2006.

Her dissertation work, funded by the Social Science Research Council and the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation explored how Latina youth negotiate and construct their sexual agency.  Her research focuses on gender, sexuality, and U.S. Latinos.  She has contributed a section on Latina teen pregnancy and sexuality to the Oxford Encyclopedia of Latinos and Latinas in the United States (Oxford University Press, 2005).  Additionally, she has an article under review that is based on an exploratory case study of sexuality and Latina youth and another article (co-authored) that explores the significance and implications of comparative and collaborative approaches to the study of latinidad.
