Masters of Arts in Sociology
Required Courses:
a) Classical theory (SOC 585) 4 credit hours;
b) Contemporary theory (SOC 587) 4 credits hours;
c) Seminar in Sociological Research Methods (SOC509) 4 credits;
d) Selection of two from the following four courses: Race and Ethnicity (SOC 525) or Sociology of Gender (SOC 524), AND Social Stratification SOC 541 or OrganizationsSOC 547), and one area seminar in Race Ethnicity and Gender (SOC 520) OR Social Institutions (SOC 540) (12 credits hours);
e) Project Research (SOC 597) (2 credit hours);
and, f) Department Proseminar (Soc 595) (1 credit hour).
g) Sociological Statistics (SOC 401) and Intermediate Sociological Statistics (SOC402) (8 credit hours)
h) Sociological Research Methods (SOC 501) and Sociological Research Methods ll (SOC501) (8 credit hours)
i) Colloquium on College Teaching of Sociology (SOC 593) (1 credit hour)
Ph.D. in Sociology
Required Courses:
a) MA courses are considered prerequisites to doctoral coursework (36-44 credits).
b) Selection of two from the following four courses (8 credits): Race and Ethnicity(SOC 525) OR Sociology of Gender (SOC 524) AND Social Stratification SOC 541 OROrganizations SOC 547). Courses taken in the MA program may not be repeated.
c) (4 credits) in Race Ethnicity and Gender (SOC 520) OR Social Institutions (SOC540.
d) Sociological Research Methods (SOC 509) (4 credits).e) 16–24 dissertation research hours. The minimum number of hours beyond the baccalaureate is 96.
